Vintage Travel poster produced for Great Western Railway (GWR) to promote rail travel to Torquay, Devon. The poster shows an expansive view of the town’s seaside with its harbour, promenade and pier. Artwork by Leonard Richmond, who studied at the Taunton School of Art and Chelsea Polytechnic, and exhibited widely abroad as well as at the principal London galleries. He wrote several books on painting technique and painted landscapes as well as pictures with figures.
This Poster dates to 1947.
The writing on the poster says; Torquay, GWR.
I beleive that this picture of Torquay was taken from Vane Hill, above rock walk. It shows the Pavilion, next to princess gardens, the harbour, marina as now, Beacon Quay, and the shops along Victoria Parade.
