Product code: S-882

Product information

Poster produced in 1937 for the Southern Railway (SR) to promote cheap 'Go as You Please' tickets. It offers ‘Southern Rambles’ in Kent & Surrey and ‘Walking at Weekends’ in Kent, Sussex and Hampshire. The poster shows a farmer and two horses ploughing an open field being closely chased by an angry storm cloud. Artwork by Herbert Alker Tripp (1883-1954), who had a long and successful career with New Scotland Yard. He painted in his spare time and after his retirement he designed posters for Southern Railway and Great Western Railway. He was knighted in 1945.

This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
