Melbourne, Australia. Vintage Australian Travel Poster by James Northfield.
Designed by James Northfield and featuring a beautiful illustration of the Melbourne CBD divided by the Yarra River, this vintage poster would make a perfect addition to any Australian home.
Indeed, Northfield is an important part of Australian art and advertising history. Described as 'Australia's most capable poster artist' by the Art Training Institute of Melbourne, it was his background as a colour lithographer and his excellent sense of design that enabled him to prosper from the remarkable growth of advertising in Australia following the First World War.
He produced an vast body of work during his active years (1920s to 1950s) as a commercial Australian artist, including travel posters, recruiting and peace bond posters, designs for many iconic products and for national events and centeneries. On retirement, he pursued his love of fine art and began exploring new mediums.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
