English Travel Poster produced for the Great Western Railway (GWR) to promote rail travel to the Cornish resort and port of Penzance, ‘the ideal holiday centre’. The poster shows a view of the harbour with fishing boats in the foreground, and the bay, town and surrounding countryside in the background. The poster mentions theresort's pleasant climate, and the good fishing, hunting, golf and tennis that can be enjoyed there. Artwork by S C Rowles.
This Poster dates from 1923-1935. In 1935 there was a lido built in Penzance. As it is a fairly big landmark in
Penzance and does not appear in this poster (you can see it in the other penzance
poster that we have), this might date the picture to pre-1935.
This is truly an outstanding quality print. It is printed on excellent quality Fujitsu photographic paper. It is not a cheap flimsy poster.
