The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, or VSOE, is a private luxury train service from London to Venice that is popularly referred to as the Orient Express. The opulent 1920-1930 style carriages offer possibly the ultimate experience into the elegant age of rail travel with delightful vintage cabins, elaborate cuisine and an itinerary of Europes finest romantic and scenic cities. This travel poster was produced in 1979 promoting the Orient Express which ran between London, Paris and Venice. Artist Pierre Fix-Masseau has used a window in the shape of ‘The Lion of Venice’ which frames his illustration of San Marco. Doge’s Palace can clearly be seen with St Mark’s Basilica and Campanile (the bell tower) in the background whilst a silhouette of a gondola passes in front. The train itself speeds by in the foreground.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
