Product Description
Vintage travel poster produced for L&Y and N.E. railways to promote rail travel to Blackpool, Lancashire. The poster is written in French and advertises the Ligne Maritime, Zeebrugge- Hull (Shipping Line from Zeebrugge in Belguim- Hull in the UK) The posters artwork is by Williams, Wilton and shows three smiling, elegantly dressed women with parasols and sun hats sitting on a railing with the sea behind them.
The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) was a major British railway company before the 1923 Grouping. It was incorporated in 1847 from an amalgamation of several existing railways. It was the third-largest railway system based in Northern England (after the Midland and North Eastern Railways).
The North Eastern Railway (NER), was also an English railway company. It was incorporated in 1854, when four existing companies were combined, and was absorbed into the London and North Eastern Railway at the Grouping in 1923. Its main line survives to the present day as part of the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
