Product information
Poster produced in 1952 by British Railways (Southern Region), promoting rail travel to Deal and Walmer in Kent, described as ‘Sunny and Bracing’. This enchanting view of the promenade and seafront of Deal focuses on what is now known as the ‘Deal Timeball’. Originally this tower was used for naval communication between Deal and London during the Napoleonic wars and later it played an important part in the suppression of smuggling. The Tower was also used visually to signal to ships at anchor in the Dover Channel. Artwork by Frank Sherwin.
