East Coast Frolics. Vintage LNER Travel Poster by Frank Newbould

Product code: S-779

Product information

This poster was produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to East Coast resorts in 1933. It is the first one in a set of six humorous posters with the caption "I do like to be beside - the Drier Side!" It shows a cartoon of a duck in a Pierrot costume singing while standing next to the silhouette of a grand piano being played by a mouse. The complete set was exhibited in the 1933 LNER Poster Art Exhibition at the New Burlington Galleries in London. The artist Frank Newbould (1887-1951), studied at Bradford College of Art and joined the War Office in 1942. He designed posters for the LNER, GWR (Great Western Railway), Orient Line and Belgian Railways.

This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
