Poster produced by London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote train and sea services to Iona in Scotland. Iona is a small island in the Inner Hebrides off the western coast of Scotland. It was a centre of Irish monasticism for four centuries and is today renowned for its tranquility and natural beauty which the artist has skillfuly captured. Iona Abbey is featured along with one of the very few remaining Celtic Crosses. A ship is passing in the background whilst a man sits back on the rocks quietly watching the visitors and the local sheep. 1923-1947. Artwork by Tom Gilfillan.
