Product information
Vintage William Metcalf travel poster of an old castle in Ireland showing a couple on a horse drawn cart making their way down towards a small bridge. To date this castle and location remains a mystery and we would like to get to the bottom of it. There have been numerous suggestions, Blarney Castle, Castle Ross, Killarney Park and Kilcash Castle! With Ireland having so many castle ruins this might require some local knowledge, so if anyone can help to identify, then please email us so we can finally give this delightful poster its correct title.
Ross Castle, Killarney, Ireland. Irish Horse and cart Travel poster by William Medcalf.
The artist William (Bill) Medcalf - Born in Minneapolis, all of Bill’s art education came from schools near his hometown. In 1940 and 1941, he worked in the art department of the United States Treasury’s Bureau of Engraving and in 1942, he joined the Navy as a gunners mate. Bill painted more than twenty years of beautiful pinups for Brown & Bigelow from 1947 to 1967, handling all the special-project calendar commissions for their most important customers.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
