Product information
A strikingly simple poster produced in the 1930’s by Australian Victorian Railways showing the Murray River. It is Australia's longest river and during the latter half of the 19th century paddlewheel steamboats were relied upon as a means of transport as the river was unsuitable for ships. Tours on these steamboats became very popular later on and allowed visitors to absorb the beauty of the many regions of citrus plantations and vineyards which the river runs through. Artist Gert Sellheim, 1901-1970 was born in Estonia and moved to Melbourne in 1930 and quickly became recognised as a talented commercial artist. His most memorable posters were produced for the Australian National Travel Association, which were widely distributed overseas to encourage tourism.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
