Product Description
Vintage Australian poster promoting the safety of swimming and surfing which had become a popular recreational and sporting pastime around the beginning of 20th century. The artist has expertly used contrasting colours and linear composition to illustrate lifesavers participating in a routine reel-and-line rescue exercise. Artist Gert Sellheim, 1901-1970 was born in Estonia and moved to Melbourne in 1930 and quickly became recognised as a talented commercial artist. His most memorable posters were produced for the Australian National Travel Association, which were widely distributed overseas to encourage tourism.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
