Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear. Vintage LNER Travel Poster by Alfred Lambert

Product code: S-694

Product information

Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail services to the coastal town of Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear. The poster shows two women and a man, fashionably dressed, looking out from a high incline over the seaside and outdoor pool. This poster was produced just before the General Strike in 1926. Economically, this was a bad year for the railways, especially the LNER. It was said afterwards that the publicity of 1926 had been the only bright feature for the railway. Artwork by Alfred Lambert (1902-1970), who studied art at the Allan-Frazer Art College in Arbroathy. He designed posters for LNER and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) and illustrated books.

This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
