The “U.S Marines Active Service on Land and Sea” poster was used during World War 1 to recruit members of the U.S marine corp. The opportunity to travel and see different parts of the world was a huge selling point for young Americans. Travel at the time was still very expensive, the US Marine corps was a way to see the world while getting paid.

This is one of a series of posters used during this period that encouraged young men to sign up to the U.S Marines. The main theme in all of these posters was the theme of adventure. The marines was seen as a great opportunity to see the world.
