Wakefield Castrol Motor Oil, Vintage Land Speed Record poster. Sir Henry Segrave 1929

Product code: XS-706

Product information

This classic vintage Land Speed poster is one of our set of four and advertises Wakefield Castrol Motor Oil. Born in America in 1896, Major H.O.D. Segrave was the first person to travel at over 200mph in a land vehicle and died tragically in 1930 on Lake Windermere attempting the water speed record. This poster tells us that on the 11th March 1929 he broke the Land Speed record by attaining 231mph. (231.36mph to be exact)  It shows him in his yellow Irving-Napier car racing along Daytona Beach at night time.  The car was aptly named ‘Golden Arrow’.  Artwork is by Shuffrey.

This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
