Product code: S-296

Product information

A London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) travel poster produced in 1933  promoting rail travel to Whitley Bay in Tyne and Wear. The poster shows a tiny rocky island just north of Whitley Bay which is home to St Marys Lighthouse. Fishermen in a small rowing boat are returning home and in the background the town is bathed in the warm glow of sunset. Artwork by Frank Mason (1876-1965), who was educated at HMS Conway and spent time at sea. He painted marine and coastal subjects. In addition to designing railway posters, he was also involved in engineering and shipbuilding in Leeds and Hartlepool.

This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
